Yes it is. Red's Aquarium & Pet Supply is independently owned by Diedra Ericson, a long time local Whatcom County resident and does not have any out side investors ! That means 100% of your purchases stay in Whatcom County and support Whatcom jobs and this diverse community. It also means Red's Aquarium & Pet Supply offers you the best selection of products for your pets that really work and aren't just sold to you to make outside investors happy!
As we celebrate our 7th summer in business we are continually grateful to the amazing folks like yourself that are choosing to shop local and to help revive the neighborhood pet stores of days gone by.
Red was a bit of a frequent flyer at the Skagit County Humane Society, running off and getting picked up a few times before meeting my two kids and myself. Between his size and his reputation as an escapist, I was a bit hesitant to take him home. That was until my oldest boy put his arms around his neck in a big hug and snuggled into his thick fur - Red quieted right down and looked me directly in the eyes almost as if to say 'ya... gotcha'. Red never saw the inside of the Humane Socity again.
Family tradition is to let dogs choose their own name. We made a list of 3-5 names we all liked, and sat down to see what the new dog responded best to. Once he heard Red he wouldn't answer to anything else! This amazing soul dog watched over my small family untill his pasing in 2019. Red was there for all the pets- cats, other dogs, the occasional pigeon, geese, chickens, and so many aquariums and fish. He was also the reason I began making pet food at home and started down a path of common sense anmial feeding.
It only made sense that the shop would carry his name and his legacy to the community of pet parents here in the Whatcom County.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Red and a bit of the histroy of Red's Aquarium & Pet Supply. I and the whole team at Red's always enjoy hearing your own stories of the 'Reds' in your life. As a pet frindly space we also love to meet them too! Water bowls are full and treats are out for when ever you and your pets stop in♥️🐾

Red's Aquarium & Pet Supply partnered with Ferndale High Schools Aquaponics Department to act as a drop off location for items to be donated the high school.
All gear must be in reasonably clean and useable condition. We can not accept anything broken, excessively dirty, full of wet gravel, salt water equipment, or any sort of bulb or halogen fixtures. We cannot accept frozen or expired food or reading material like magazines or books.
Dry, unused gravel, aquariums that hold water, led lights, decoration like plastic plants, figurines, or air pumps and heaters are all eagerly accepted! Large amounts of live aquarium plants are also accepted and either delivered by Red's to FHS or picked up by a member of the Ferndale school district.
Thank you for considering donating your items to help the next generation of fish keepers get their fins wet!
Larry and MaryJo Oltmann owned and operated Clark Feed and Seed for over 4 decades and made that store the vibrant community staple that it was. We are flattered to be compared to what they built but we are not the same business. Our owner and founder Diedra Ericson did get her start in the pet industry managing Clark's before starting Red's Aquarium & Pet Supply in December of 2018.
